The Most Important Detail of Your Wedding

  • Posted on November 21, 2009 at 7:15 am

What do you think is the most important detail of your wedding? Your dress, your hair and makeup, the rings, the flowers? What about your vows, the music you choose? Of course, chances are that the most important detail of your wedding would be the person standing next to you at the altar, but other than that, what’s your second choice?

It’s probably very difficult to choose one particular detail that you might consider as being the most important, and of course the answer will be different for each bride. But when thinking about wedding details, one that you never want to overlook or think of as being unimportant is your choice of wedding favors.

And why is this? Why are your wedding favors one of the most important details of your wedding? Simply put, wedding favors are the one item from your wedding that guests are going to take home with them. Along with photos, your wedding favors are going to be put in an album or kept as a treasured memento of that special day. Long after they’ve forgotten what your gown looked like or what was served for dinner at the reception, your wedding favors are going to be with them as a reminder.

Not only will they be kept for years to come, but your wedding favors say a lot about you as a bride and what you think of the guests that are going to be sharing your special day. If you’ve spent thousands of dollars on a designer gown for yourself and have chosen just the right jewelry, have had your hair and makeup done by a professional, and want the fanciest decorations for your church, but have your guests eat cold chicken and watered down liquor, what message do you think they’ll take home with them? Or if you send them home with poorly designed or downright tacky wedding favors, how will they feel about that?

Yes, your wedding is your day, but it’s also a time when you are playing hostess to so many friends and loved ones. Because your wedding is your day, it’s also your party, and the guests are just that – guests at your party, just as much as if they had come to your home for a dinner or backyard barbecue. The type of hostess you decide to be will leave a lasting impression with your guests, so it’s important to make sure they understand how important they are to you, and putting an extra bit of time and attention toward your wedding favors is a great way to do just that.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you need to break the budget or feel obligated to get things for your guests that you really can’t afford. The real key to making wedding favors that are memorable and that will be treasured is to simply put some extra time and effort into making them personal and unique. For example, simple boxes of chocolate truffles can be dressed up with beautiful wrapping paper and thick ribbon. Tulle bags of Hershey’s Kisses can be tied with strings of shiny beads, available at sewing supply store or even where you would purchase Christmas tree garland. And a nice touch for wedding favors, one that many brides have loved for years, is customized candy bar wrappers. They are personal, affordable, and if you choose the right design and the right manufacturer, they can be a treasured keepsake for years to come. For example, one of the internet’s largest customized candy wrapping sites, www. FavorsAndWraps. com, has over 150 designs for wedding favors, bachelorette parties, bridal showers, baby showers, and everything in between. Their designs include nature and beach scenes, fun and whimsical designs, ones that are elegant and traditional, and many that are clean and modern. They are meant to be used as keepsakes, whether for a scrapbook or collage, and many are even suitable for framing.

So when deciding on all the important details of your special day, remember that you want to pay attention to how you make others feel on this day as well. Your wedding favors will be something that will be kept and treasured always, so make sure you give attention to this important detail as well!

Wedding Favor Crackers

  • Posted on November 21, 2009 at 2:16 am

Crackers aren’t just for Christmas. These great little gift holders also make wonderful wedding favors & beautiful decorative elements to your table settings. Wedding crackers are becoming a popular choice for wedding favors & they look fabulous when trimmed with ribbons in your wedding colors & a personalized thank you tag. So what are your options when it comes to looking for wedding crackers: Make Your Own – you can buy all the elements you need to make your own crackers up, including papers, inners, snaps, mottos & gifts. This is a great way to add a personal touch to your wedding favors, whilst having full control on the design, colors & contents. Buy Empty Crackers – these come ready made but only contain a motto or sometimes no contents at all. You get full instructions on how to insert your own gifts into the crackers. Whilst this gives you control over the gift inside, you could be limited by colors & designs. Ready Made – these are all ready to go – fully made up containing gifts, mottos etc. Vendors will sell crackers in a variety of designs & colors, with a choice of gift. Custom made – these will be made for you by the manufacturer to your requirements. This way you can choose the colors, design & contents, all made up professionally for you. Ready made crackers will be more expensive than making your own, however, you should factor in the amount of time it will take you to put them together. If it will take you weeks to complete them, it may be better to buy them ready made & save yourself the hassle! Most manufacturers will offer you a choice of gifts & mottos, in different price ranges. So you should be able to find something to suit your budget. When it comes to gifts you can choose between confectionary, small keepsakes, fun items (such as those you get in Christmas crackers) or something more luxurious. You will also find crackers come in various sizes, from mini crackers to extra large versions. If your budget is really tight & you don’t fancy making your own, then use ready made Christmas crackers. Visit your local stores after Christmas for reduced boxes of crackers. If you’re lucky you will be able to get a choice of gift, including luxury gifts which may have been out of your budget before. If the colors or designs aren’t to your liking then you can re-cover them with papers bought from a cracker supplier. Arrange to have a mass cracker pull before the speeches at the reception, just to avoid any interruptions! Also don’t forget to include some for any children at the wedding. Kids love crackers, so make sure you have some with special children friendly gifts inside. Making your own also gives you the opportunity to include personal messages inside, jokes or even poems/recipes/songs etc. Just make sure that your choice of gift will fit inside the finished cracker!

Attractive Personalized Wedding Gifts

If you are looking for a unique and attractive wedding present for that special couple, nothing is quite as unique as a personalized wedding gift. Help the happy couple celebrate their new life together with a gift bearing their name. There are so many alternatives available that you can be certain to give a one-of-a-kind wedding. Personalized Wedding Gifts for the Home Decorating a first home is always a fun challenge for the new bride and groom. When choosing a personalized wedding gift, be sure to take the happy couple’s taste and preferences into account. Certain gifts, such wall hangings, wall clocks, canvas hangings, and personalized wedding mementoes, can fit into nearly any décor, and can serve as the perfect wedding gift for the new couple. Surprise the new pair with a beautiful engraved glass wedding frame to display one of their favorite wedding or engagement pictures. Welcome them to their new home with a stunning double-sided table frame that displays their favorite wedding quote on one side and a photo from their special day on the other. If you are familiar with the decorating taste of the bride and groom, you can choose a frame that suits the style of their home so that your gift can become a permanent part of their everyday lives. Take the wedding picture frame to the next level with a unique collage frame specifically designed to hold honeymoon photos. A Honeymoon Photo Collage Frame can beautifully accent any home while reminding the couple of their first time together as a unit. While any collage frame can display honeymoon photos, choose one that can constantly remind them of their wonderful first vacation together. A frame fitted with a die-cut mat spelling out the letters “HONEYMOON” gives ample space for displaying nine treasured photos from their trip. Personalized Wedding Gifts to Hang on the Wall Other popular wedding gifts are wall plaques, and a personalized wall plaque can enhance the importance of the gift even more. For a friend with simple, homespun tastes and a country rustic decorating scheme, you might choose a country art slate wall plaque, hand-painted with their names and the date of their wedding. A canvas art wall hanging is a lighter alternative to a personalized wedding plaque. Choose one with an optimistic saying like “Live, Love, Laugh” as a lasting reminder of the important things in life. Personalized Wedding Keepsakes If you decide to buy the bride and groom a small keepsake, consider a gift that will become a treasured part of their holiday celebration for years to come. One option is a personalized Christmas ornament scripted with their names and wedding date. Opting for more detail, you could also get them a creative ornament personalized with the entire wedding party. Certain ornaments enable you to even choose the appropriate hair color and skin tone of each wedding attendant, and include their name on the ornament. Non-Traditional Personalized Wedding Gifts If you want to avoid the “wedding” tag, you can choose a personalized gift for the home without a wedding motif. Gifts such as personalized tile coasters inscribed with an initial or last name can proudly sit on any table in any room. Carry your wedding gift ideas outside and choose a personalized welcome mat or welcome plaque for the door of the couple’s home. Hand painted slate tiles or a molded and hand painted welcome plaque is an especially warm wedding gift for couples moving into a new home together. Personalized Wedding Gifts for the Bedroom If you are looking for something very traditional, one of the most conventional wedding gifts for a new couple is a quilt or other bedding option. Whether you choose a quilted throw in the traditional wedding ring pattern, or a more modern woven jacquard cotton afghan throw, you can have the blanket embroidered with the happy couple’s name and wedding date to make it a lasting keepsake of their special day. Personalized Novelty Wedding Gifts Of course, not every wedding gift has to be formal, or even useful. Sometimes fun and hysterically personalized wedding gifts are the best and most memorable. If the bride and groom have decided to change their names, give them each a t-shirt imprinted with Mr. and Mrs. “last names” in calligraphic script so that they don’t forget their new family name. Deck the couple out in matching “I’m the Bride” and “I’m the Groom” t-shirts and baseball caps to wear on their honeymoon. A personalized wedding gift is a very special way of acknowledging your friends’ or families’ new journey towards a life of love and true happiness. Don’t be caught giving an impersonal set of pots or glassware. Choose a unique personalized gift that will be treasured and displayed forever.

Wedding Gift for Soon-to-Be Husband?

  • Posted on November 20, 2009 at 8:17 pm

I know this has been asked a million times here, but I still am at a loss of what to give him. We both are just graduating college and are very strapped for money, our parents are paying for nearly the entire wedding, so gifts like watches and such just don’t sound like they will work. I would just say that we don’t need gifts, and I’m sure he would agree normally, except that I accidentally found out that hes been building me a cedar chest with his dad for the last year for me. This is a really sentimental gift for me since its been a family tradition for generations for the women to get a cedar chest for keepsakes in their new families, but my carpenter grandpa who would normally make it recently passed away. He knew I would be sad to not be getting one, so he told my family that he would take care of it as my gift from him. So, I guess I’m struggling to find an equally sentimental, old fashioned and traditional, more effort than going to the store type gift that isn’t going to cost me loads. Any ideas?

more info: I’m not really wanting to give him a gift based on hobbies either because I feel like I do that for birthdays and Christmas anyway. I guess I’m looking for something a bit more timeless than that.

The Etiquette for a Victorian Wedding

  • Posted on November 19, 2009 at 7:40 am

Wedding ceremonies are different depending on the preferences and fortunes of those involved. There are no specific directions to follow. However, those that will be married by ministers should first study the form of weddings their church follows. The Episcopalians have their “Book of Common Prayer”, the Methodists have their “Book of Discipline” and the Catholics have certain rituals. The wedding rehearsal is normally made in private but it is required if the couples will be wed by a magistrate. The most number of ceremonies occur in Catholic and Episcopal weddings but these are normally the most impressive. The Victorian Wedding ATTIRE: Victorian weddings are filled with ruffles, bows and lace. Guests should consider wearing an antique dress a lace cap or headpiece, which can be purchased from the ladies at Greystone Gardens. For a morning wedding, the men should wear a morning dress and a tailcoat for an evening wedding. A top hat is also a nice option. MENU: A formal Victorian wedding should follow the guidelines for a traditional formal wedding. For an informal wedding, the ideal setting is the Sunday tea dance with scones, petit fours filled with fresh fruit. The movie The Age of Innocence should be watched for inspiration. INVITATIONS: The invitation of a formal Victorian wedding should have an attractive embossed border on the edge. The text should be formal or if possible should be engraved. Invitations can also carry the couple’s favorite Victorian love poem. FAVORS: A cracker popular during holiday time is good option for a Victorian wedding. These things were invented during the Victorian era and snap when opened. These can be filled with a trinket based on personality and budget. A folding fan printed with a nice poem and wedding date can be used in a daytime wedding. FLOWERS: The flowers play a very important role in a Victorian wedding. A tussy mussy is a good option. The flower girls can carry pomanders. PROPER ETTIQUETTE IN A VICTORIAN WEDDING Weddings regardless if its Victorian or not follow a certain etiquette in order to make the ceremony flow seamlessly. – Bridesmaids and groomsmen should perform certain responsibilities in the ceremony if the wedding is not strictly private. – The bride should be older than her bridesmaids and their outfits should match. However, the wedding gown should obviously look more expensive but the dresses of the bridesmaids can have more ornaments. The dresses should be composed of graceful, light material. The flowers should serve as the principal decoration. – The wedding gown should exude simplicity but can be worn with few ornaments or jewelry, which come from the parents or bridegroom. The garland and veil should be the most eye-catching in the dress. – The bridesmaids should assist the bride in wearing her wedding gown and receiving guests. They should also stand at her left side during the ceremony. The bouquet and gloves should be held by the first bridesmaid. – The placing of the bridesmaids should not be much of a concern but those conscious with symmetry should consider putting the tallest to the smallest from the couple. However, any order should be suffice. A bridesmaid can be paired with a groomsman who has the same height. – The groomsmen are primarily designated to receive the clergyman, lead him to the couple that will be married and stand in the right side of the bridegroom during the ceremony. CEREMONY IN CHURCH The etiquette in a Victorian church wedding sees the bride entering from the left side with her father followed by the bridesmaids or more common, as single bridesmaid. The groom enters from the right and is trailed by his attendants. Behind are the parents, while the attendants stand from either side. The bride should make sure that her glove can be easily removed, while the groom should be certain that ring is placed where he can easily find it to avoid being embarrassed or delaying the ceremony. ETTIQUETTE IN EXITING THE CHURCH The newly-married couple holds each others arm when they depart from the church. A reception can be held at home for around two hours attended by intimate friends. A short breakfast can be held before the couple can embark on their bridal tour.

The Yuletide ’Tis the Season for a Christmas Wedding

  • Posted on November 18, 2009 at 1:22 am

Christmas time, the season of excitement, family get-togethers, sharing and communion. It’s a time when friends and family come together not only to deck the halls with boughs of holly, but to gather together in joyous reminiscing of a year gone by and to share hopeful expectations for the coming year.

Why not add to the yule tide cheer this Christmas by tying the knot with a Christmas Wedding?

Having a Christmas theme wedding this winter is a great way to celebrate the peace and joy of the winter holidays and is a sure way to make your wedding a memorable one for years to come.

Sure, there are some who cringe at the thought of exchanging vows at a time of sub-zero emperatures, but winter weddings, especially during the Christmas season has become increasingly acceptable and is quite popular.

In fact, from a logistical stand point, a Christmas wedding may make more sense as family and friends are already on holidays which will make it easier to attend your wedding. But you will want to make sure that you send out your

invitations at least 3-4 months in advance to give your guests ample notice of your upcoming Christmas wedding. We all know how busy it can get as the Christmas season approaches so you’ll want to make sure your wedding party and guests don’t overbook themselves and end up missing your special day.

Are you determined to have a Christmas wedding but not too sure how to make it all happen? Then consider the Traditional and Elegant Christmas wedding themes, they’re really quite popular; The Elegant Christmas Wedding Theme

A beautiful option for a Christmas wedding is to make everything very formal and elegant. Think black tie and evening dress and all the elegance of a grand ball. You could decorate the church or wedding hall with white lights and satin and trim the pews with gold ribbons. Dress your attendants in elegant evening wear and wear a glamorous vintage style gown. Whether indoors or out, make sure to include an elegant white Pashmina wool wrap, for you and your attendants to make sure you not too cold during the ceremony.

At the reception, have a large natural Christmas tree in the corner of the room decorated with ropes of white lights and golden bows. Decorate the tables with large bowls containing gold or white floating candles and white rose petals.

As a wedding favor, give guests a small gold Christmas ornament inscribed with the date of the wedding and your names. Guests will have a memorable keepsake reminder of your wedding. Wrap all the ornaments, in a white box with a gold

ribbon, and pile them under the Christmas tree. At the end of the reception invite each guest to pick their own “present” from under the tree. An elegant Christmas wedding with simple, tasteful decorations in white and gold doesn’t have to be expensive. If you are creative you can have a gorgeous and elegant Christmas wedding even if you’re on a tight budget. The Traditional Christmas Wedding Theme

Perhaps a traditional Christmas wedding would be your style. If so, use all the traditional Christmas elements to create a romantic, warm, joyous event that will combine the good will of the Christmas season with the happiness of your wedding. Decorate the church or wedding hall with multi colored Christmas lights. Use green and red poinsettias for decorations, and carry red roses bundled together with lots of greenery tied with a gold ribbon for your bouquet.

Dress your attendants in simple holiday dresses in red and green, with gold jewelry. Use Christmas present bows to decorate each pew in the church and fill the church with gold candles.

At the reception, focus on making the room romantic and cozy. What you want to do is recreate the warmth and feeling of your living room on Christmas morning. Have a large natural Christmas tree in a corner decorated with strings of colored lights, strings of tinsel, candy canes, icicles, ropes of popcorn and cranberries, bows, ornaments, and candles.

Choose lots of different styles of ornaments, but make sure that each one is marked with the date and your names, even if it’s just marked with a pretty printed sticker on the bottom. Make sure there are more ornaments on the tree than there are guests at the reception and invite each guest to select an ornament off the tree as a party favor.

Make a nice selection of coffees, teas, eggnog, and hot chocolate. Have platers of Christmas cookies, candy canes, white and green mints, fudge, and other Christmas treats set out on tables for your guests to snack on.

You could also serve a traditional Christmas dinner of ham or turkey with all the fixings. If you are going to allow children at the reception, consider setting up a children’s area with plenty of seating, a DVD player and holiday favorites such as The Christmas Story, Frosty the Snowman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and other holiday movies favorites to make the evening an enjoyable one for them as well.

Having a Christmas wedding can be a lovely way for everyone to celebrate your marriage and the holidays at the same time. Use the excitement, joy, love and happiness of the Christmas season to make your wedding a memorable one. The Yuletide ’tis the season to have a Christmas wedding.
