Set the Holiday Season Mood With a Christmas Movie

  • Posted on February 27, 2010 at 1:30 pm

Apart from the Christmas tree, decorations, parties and gifts, there is something that adds a special atmosphere to the holiday season: Christmas films. Almost all adults have sweet memories of a Christmas movie, a movie that remains favorite and have – sometimes just for a second – a particular taste: the taste of childhood. We are now adults and know that films related to Christmas, creating an atmosphere of fun and also teach moral lessons to our children. When I was a child, the most watched films of 1950 Belgian Christmas were American movies (Hollywood style of course) or French films. For twenty-five years, our society has changed and the quality of TV shows at Christmas French language in Europe has decreased. Films Christmas Eve have been replaced with music programming, the quality was not the best. Many television companies also tend to offer hundreds of times viewed films: for example, TVI shows Harry Potter 1 and 2 on December 24th while we waited to watch Harry Potter 3 or 4. . . However, thanks to the Internet and DVD stores, I have the opportunity to watch films that I like instead of those offered by television companies. Here are some examples of beautiful and / or humorous films of Christmas, I love, “Bishop’s Wife” A good film in the Hollywood tradition! While working on plans to build a cathedral, financed by a wealthy widow, Henry Broghaman, Episcopal bishop neglects his family and pray for divine guidance. Her prayers are answered and Dudley, an angel is sent to help. The mission of the angel is not helping to build, but in its relationships with his family that he neglects. But Dudley falls in love with the wife of the bishop and Broghaman is jealous… French title of this movie is “Honi Soit Qui Mal thinks” (Old English: shame on those who think ill of him). “The sound of music” This film tells the story of Maria, a young Austrian woman who was studying to become a nun. She was hired by Captain Von Trapp, a widower to be the governess of his seven children. Children have been hostile to it, but eventually became friends when she thaught them the joy of singing. Captain Von Trapp and Maria fall in love and marry. When the Nazis took power in Austria, Captain Von Trapp and his family fled the country and found refuge in Switzerland. This musical is one of the French romantic European movies. “3615 Code Pere Noel” Thomas is a child who has everything: a mother who loves him, a grandfather Cheeky, thousands of different toys and costly. Thomas is an intelligent child and on Christmas Eve, while planning capture, he communicates with him through the Minitel (the ancestor of the French IM). Unfortunately, the alleged Santa Claus is an employee of psychopath that his mother has just dismissed. A few hours later, the Santa false enters castle Thomas and the nightmare begins. The English title of this thriller is “Dial Code Santa Claus” Santa is a shit “(Father Christmas is a filth) SOS distress and Friendship” is a charity headed by Ms. Paulin. So she decided to celebrate Christmas with his family, Peter and Theresa spend their evening, the phone and try to give some hope to desperate people. They do not know that this night of Christmas will also stupid accidents and unexpected visits from desperate and sometimes dangerous people. The evening will turn into a nightmare comedy. The U.S. remake of this film is “Mixed Nuts”. “Scrooged” This is a modern adaptation of Dickens. Francis Cross, who is director of programming at a television station, is an unpleasant person. During Christmas Eve, three ghosts take care of them and teach him to become a good person by showing him the bright side of life. This film is also a beautiful message which teaches the world the true meaning of Christmas. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” The return of the family Griswold! 25,000 bulbs on the front of the house blinding the neighbors, family related unbearable, tree burning Christmas, a Christmas turkey burned, hostile neighbors, a Christmas bonus and removed a lot of unforeseen accidents, c ‘Christmas is the Griswold family. I watched this movie for the first time in the late 80s and never enough! I even bought the DVD to have the opportunity to create an atmosphere hysterical Christmas every other day of the year! “Surviving Christmas” Tired of the customs of Christmas and New Year? Are they paid $ 250,000 on the eve of celebrating a traditional Christmas with a stranger? fun to watch these films and have a very Merry Christmas!

Home for the Holidays: Selling a Home During the Christmas Season

  • Posted on November 23, 2009 at 1:12 am

Selling your home during the holidays can be a real grind, but could result in a surprisingly quick sale. Here’s an overview of selling during the holidays, the pros and cons and whether it’s worth it for you. Christmas is not a popular time for house hunting; most people go house shopping in the spring, when the weather is nicer and more people put their houses up for sale. However, those people out hunting during the holiday season usually have a good reason. Serious buyers during the holiday season are more likely to be looking for a house quickly. They may buy your home with a minimum of haggling in order to get moved in before the holidays are over. However, there are some cons to selling during the Christmas season. Many serious buyers wait until after the holiday season to start house hunting. The customs and vacations attendant upon the holidays means that people will be vacationing, which could meant that your agent will be unavailable for a period of time. Prospective buyers may think that *you* are eager to sell, and price their offers accordingly. If you are celebrating the holidays at your home, you might find that it is inconvenient to have the house sparkling clean at all times and to have to shoo everyone out of the house at an hour’s notice. If you want to try selling during the holiday season, here are a few tips:The power of the nose is underestimated by many people. Smell is the first sense we develop and is deeply associated with food and emotion. A bad smell may not affect your buyers consciously, but unconsciously, they’re thinking. “Ew. Maybe there’s a corpse in the basement or the walls are molding away. ” A clean smell is great, as it does not cause negative reactions from most buyers. However, for Christmas, it may pay off to stage your home so that your buyers can imagine their Christmas happening here. When you clean your home and stage it for buyers, try choosing natural-based citrus and pine scented cleaners. These should just leave a hint of their scent behind . If you can bake cookies and cakes (bake, don’t burn!), do it in the morning before you leave for the house tour; it will give the house a holiday smell. Also, a pot of apple cider that has been heated on the stove lends a delightfully spicy, Christmasy smell. Go the extra mile and leave some of those cookies and cider or hot chocolate out for your buyers. They might not remember the moldings, but they will remember free food and drink! Decorate conservatively, but do decorate; it blends your house in with your neighbors’ houses and looks more homey. Several strands of Christmas lights and a wreath on the door are enough to make your house sparkle. Keep banners and large yard displays packed up this year. Get a smaller tree than you normally would if your living room is small; it will make the space look larger. Keep the kids’ ornaments off the tree when buyers are around and try for a more uniform look this year with classic Christmas ornaments and a light hand on the tinsel. It is recommended that you shut your family’s presents away, but since they look good under the tree, wrap a few fake presents to provide a nice effect. Make sure that your sidewalk and pathway to the house are scraped and salted. Nothing turns off a buyer faster than falling on the ice; it is not only a negative connotation regarding the safety of your home, you could also get sued if you knew these people were coming and didn’t bestir yourself to ensure their safety. Trim back any branches and make sure no roof icicles or snow threaten to fall on your buyers’ heads. A nice Christmas-theme welcome mat can minimize snow and dirt from being tracked through the house. If you plan on entertaining during the holidays and/or want to have a family dinner at your home, create a schedule for entertaining and make sure that everyone invited to your events knows the right time and date. This will give you a better idea of when you can schedule home showings. Let your agent know ahead of time the times and dates the house will be unavailable for showing. Even better is the plan to have Christmas at someone else’s house! With some extra thought to decorating and scheduling, you can certainly pull off house selling on the holidays. However, stop and think whether you really want to – it may be easier to pause for a short time while holiday celebrations are going on and then start anew in January.

The whole part of your house – from the living room to the garage – can be a decorating arena during the Holidays. Here are some nice Christmas decorating tips that you can use to brighten up your home during the Holidays: 1. Decorate that Christmas tree. Christmas will never ever be complete without the traditional Christmas tree that everyone loves to adorn. Whether you have an eight-foot or a two-foot green pine tree, having a tree is always a must during the Holidays. Get your family to help in deciding the best tree to decorate. Select the right height of tree so that your living room will not be too stuffed. The tree should smell clean, with a vibrant color and the needles should be firmly attached to the branches. In embellishing your Christmas tree, it is best to decide on a color theme like orange, blue, silver or gold. Or, you can mix them all up using the holiday colors. Set the lights on your tree first, then the garlands, and lastly the ornaments of your choice. Start your merriment by filling your home with the aroma of fresh pine needles and put in some color to the Holidays with a brightly-lit adorned Christmas tree. 2. Make your home a brightly-lit haven. Put up some outdoor Christmas lights to beautify the outside of your home or your lawn. Receive your guests with a brightly-lit entryway. Plants, as well as your windows and doors, can be ornamented with outdoor Christmas lights. You can also use a colorful light scheme, or just the conventional yellow lights. There are also a number of light bulb designs to choose from. However, make sure to consult an electrician should you decide to put hundreds of outdoor Christmas lights to adorn your home to have a fire-free setup. 3. Practice age-old traditions. Apart from Christmas trees, a wreath is a further time-honored Christmas ornament required for every home. Mistletoes and Christmas stockings hung by the hearth are other wonderful, conventional decors that you can use. 4. Dress up your Christmas dinner table. Christmas is in no way complete without a lavish family dinner. Make your family feasts even more special and memorable by dressing up your dinner table with colorful Christmas ornaments. Tie red or green ribbons on scented candles and distribute them on other tables or cabinets within the kitchen. If you already have one, fashion a centerpiece for your dinner table. Use plenty of poinsettias, or any vibrant colored flowers. There are also Christmas-themed table mats and cloths that you can make use of. If you are on a stretched budget, bring out all of the red, green and gold sheets or cloths and decors that you have stored in the attic and use them to bedeck your home. Let your imagination run wild and you can definitely come up with a fantastic Christmas decorating ideas to cheer up the Holiday season.

Antique Bracelets – Be Fashionably Old This Season

  • Posted on November 20, 2009 at 9:24 pm

Being old fashioned is no longer the taboo it once was, thanks to the demand for antique jewellery. The more you turn back the clock, the more “in” your sartorial sense is assumed to be. Fashion watchers have always talked about a cycle in fashion – trends never really go permanently out of style, they are simply recycled. Take the case of bell bottom trousers, denim jackets, tote bags, pencil heels, and now, jewellery that is designed on the lines of Victorian, Renaissance, and even Egyptian pharaonic dynasty items. But we are talking about the real thing – antique jewellery, not jewelry made to imitate old styles. Antique bracelets are a good accessory to dangle on your arm this summer – their graceful lines, skilled workmanship, and “antique” tag is bound to grab eyeballs. Understanding Antique Jewellery There are two aspects to antique bracelets: age and country of origin. Depending on these two, the styles, designs, and motifs will vary. The problem with buying antique jewellery is that you may not know all the options you have. To understand the range of historical bracelets available for buyers, they need to understand cultural norms, styles, and symbolic meaning behind bracelet design when they were crafted. For example, you may feel that antique bracelets from Russia featuring birds is something only a teenager would wear; but the fact is that birds in Russia are seen as symbols of love and stability. So it won’t be inappropriate to wear them at a relaxed lunch with friends or on a date. Same goes for Egyptian antique jewellery, modeled on the lines of the treasures found in the massive tombs of Egyptian rulers. For Egyptians, each color and precious or semi precious stone or mineral signified some concept. Red was respected for its boldness and energy, orange was somewhat dubious because it was supposed to bring bad luck . Red jasper however was used only at funerals – more specifically, it was used in making ornaments for the deceased. Green was an auspicious color, signifying fertility and nature in full bloom. To actually stand out in a crowd, your antique bracelets must match your dress and also be in tune with the occasion. For that, you need deeper understanding of the symbolism of jewelry in the days gone by. That is how you will be able to make a powerful style statement.
