Any Day,Any Date – Perfect for an Occasion to Celebrate

  • Posted on November 21, 2009 at 8:43 am

In life, we reach so many milestones and achieve so much that time seems all at once to stand still and rush by. We think that we have all the time in the world when we’re younger but before you know it, you’re in another stage of your life, and then another! Keeping tabs on time is an elusive thing. There are lots of ways in which we try to capture it though, to hold the moment still so that we can remember in times to come how precious that day, week or year was. One way that we try to remember the past is by taking photographs as a lasting record of the fun we’ve had. Almost everyone you know is likely to have some photographs stored somewhere which show some key moments they adored, the parties, the weddings, the family gatherings. There will be festive photos of Christmas trees and fancy dress parties from Autumn, maybe even Summer BBQs!Then, another way we try to remember times past are to video record events such as weddings! Who hasn’t seen some embarrassing footage of their dad (and or) uncle dancing at a wedding? Then, finally we might also keep a diary and write in it religiously so that we have a guide from which to reflect on our life when we are older. There is another way to look back through time though and you don’t need a crystal ball or to have kept a big pile of photographs throughout the years to do it. We’re talking about original newspapers. You see, newspapers from any year at all can be bought for under 40 and they usually come in a special presentation box saying ‘a day to remember’ on the front. What’s more, original newspapers make brilliant birthday presents, because they can offer someone insight in to what the world was really like on the day that they were born. Newspapers and MemoriesThere are so many benefits to giving people original newspapers as gifts; firstly they can be fun to read through with your friends. They’re personal because you can choose a date which really has meaning to you when you select a paper and finally, they’re a lasting memento which means that over time, they only become even more interesting! They can be revisited time and again to offer the same interest, amusement or sentimental feelings. There are a few occasions when newspapers make outstanding gifts, one such occasion is a birthday and you can pick out the birthday date of the person you’re giving it to. Another interesting occasion is a wedding anniversary as you can choose the wedding date and it can make a really romantic anniversary or Valentine’s gift! It’ll let you think back to your special day and remember what was going on in the world at the time; conjuring up so many fond memories of your honeymoon and early married life. Times in your life when big events have occurred can also be important to many people, for example the death of Princess Diana, and the moon landing may or may not hold place in some people’s heart. If you know someone who really cares about such a big event, like the death of JFK or the inauguration of President Obama original newspapers could make thoughtful presents for them no matter what time of the year it is. Even Christmas!A Wonderful GiftThroughout our lives there are many special dates and some of these events are documented in the original newspapers that were printed at the time. Precious memories are one of the best gifts you can give anyone and that makes one of the second best gifts; some help to jog their memory and remember those fun and exciting times! Some of us have a few friends or relatives who we consider ‘hoarders. ‘ You might instantly recognise what we mean by that if there is one in your life! They love photographs and have family albums which they like to show to guests. For people like this original newspapers make especially good gifts because they can also be taken out when guests visit and they will be an interesting reminder of a time now past. It is these sentimental people who appreciate newspapers the most; they might be a grandmother or grandfather, a parent, or an aunt. You might even be married to someone who loves their photo albums and keepsakes! Looking at an old newspaper can be like going back in time and that’s priceless.

Photo Christmas Cards – Top 9 Dos and Don’ts for a Picture Perfect Holiday Greeting

  • Posted on November 19, 2009 at 7:22 pm

Do you want to capture your family’s personality in your holiday greetings?  Then, nothing beats photo Christmas cards.   Whether this is the first time you’re contemplating sending these seasonal cards or it’s a yearly tradition, here are the top dos and don’ts to help you send one that’s picture perfect. 1. DO think about getting into the picture with the kids.   Some of the people on your holiday card list may not have met your children, but they know you.   Make it a true family Christmas card and showcase the whole crew. 2. DON’T leave out the pets. For animal lovers everywhere, these furry companions are part of the family and should be included in a holiday greeting.   Plus, there’s the extra cuteness factor a pet brings to the cards. 3. DON’T waste time trying to take a perfect group portrait.   It can be a seemingly insurmountable task to try to assemble everyone in one place and get a great shot. At the last minute, somebody always blinks, frowns or looks away.   Instead, take advantage of the trend to use multiple pictures in photo Christmas cards.   This way you can use your favorite photograph of each individual and everyone is guaranteed to look good. 4. DO consider using action shots. Take candid pictures of your family having fun and you’ll notice smiles and expressions on their faces that are natural. Compare those snapshots to your more formal posed photos and decide which pictures best express your family’s temperament. 5. DO use a close-up. The most charming pictures are the ones that feature more of the subject and less background. .   Even if your back drop plays an important part in creating the holiday atmosphere, find a way to bring the focus on the main characters in the shot. 6.   DON’T use blurry, dark or overly exposed pictures in your photo Christmas cards.   Some companies will do slight retouching, but they can’t do miracles with a bad photo.   Choose only bright, sharp high-quality pictures for your holiday greeting. 7. DO create your own wording.   You are no longer forced to settle for the text shown in the sample of your chosen design.   Now, you can personalize your cards with your own sentiments.   Include a quote, a line from your favorite holiday song, a short poem or a Bible verse.   Or you could make up something heartfelt or funny.   Just make it a message from you. 8. DO check out the internet, even if you never bought photo Christmas cards online before.   First of all, you’ll find you have a wide variety of designs from which to choose.   If you select something really unique, it will make your holiday greeting stand out from the rest.   Then, you’ll find so many other options; everything from the size of the card to the font used to create the message you compose. Finally, some companies will offer light photo retouching, will customize your design and email you a free proof before your order goes to production.  9. DO something unexpected.   Be funny, cute, controversial or warm and tender. Have a family meeting to discuss ideas.   Maybe you’ll try taking a picture of the family’s faces peering out of the center of a big holiday wreath.   You might attempt a close-up of your kids gazing reflectively at a home nativity scene.   It could be a picture of your children on the beach wearing Santa hats or the family dressed in the ugliest Christmas sweaters you can find.   There is no family in the world quite like yours, so take the opportunity to express that. Photo Christmas cards are a wonderful way to convey the heart of your family to everyone on your list.   Just follow these tips and soon you’ll be sending a holiday greeting that friends and relatives will love and hold on to as a treasured keepsake.

From edibles ornaments to chains, balls and stars, there is a whole lot of stuff you can actually design yourself, sitting in the comfort of your home. Although, not a necessity. Christmas ornaments are definitely in demand during the Christmas season, primarily because of the fact that they symbolize merriment, joy and festivity. Besides, they add a splash of color and fervor to an otherwise mundane Christmas Tree. Coupling different types of ornaments together and arranging them in a collage of myriads of colors on the green leaves of the Tree can really add unmatched radiance and an unparalleled sense of exclusivity to your Christmas.
