I love making eggshell ornaments. just puncture at both ends with a pushpin and blow the whites and yokes out into a bowl. a perfect way to use up broken short crayons( can be melted and applied with a toothpick), or even finger-paint. I have some that i also added a bit of colored lace and ribbon to as well. my boys have a blast with it. especially the blowing part, they think its cool.
Beads and pipecleaners are easy. They can make candy canes with them and wreaths.
Also one my daughter made this year that I had never seen before, her handprint was used to make a santa ornament. The fingers being his beard. It was really neat because white paint on her fingers, skin tone in the middle for his face and the area near the wrist and her thumb became the hat in red. The teacher laminated the whole thing, punched a hole in it and put in a string to hang on the tree.
Now you could ALSO get plain ornament balls and put their handprints on those! Very easy!
Also in the past, my kids had done candy cane raindeer. Basically you take brown pipecleaner and twist it around the top, glue on some wiggly eyes and a little pompom red nose and you’ve got a raindeer.
Another idea is taking that fun foamy stuff that teachers love to use and cutting out a circle in green and then letting them decorate the circle with glueing on buttons, sequins, jewels, etc. to make a wreath and of course glue on a bow at the top and punch a hole in and put in some ribbon or string to hang it. This can also be done with a small paper plate, but the foam stuff lasts longer ya know as a keepsake.
Also last year one of my daughters did a star out of the foam stuff and decorated that and her picture was glued to the center.
There’s a number of things you can come up with using that foam once you get started! I can see why teachers like it so much!
Hope that gives you some ideas!!
Using a dough mixer or by hand, mix flour with salt in large mixer bowl. Add water until dough is a good consistency for kneading. If it is too dry, it will crack. Too wet, it will be sticky. Knead dough by pressing and turning it with your hands until it becomes satiny smooth. It will take about 5 to 10 minutes or more depending on the consistency of the dough and how smooth you want you finished objects tp appear. I use cookie cutters to make my ornaments. I just roll out the dough. Cut the out. I take a sturdy straw and put a hole at the top. THen I tie a ribbon(about 6″) so I can hang them later.
Also go online. There are a number of good websites that would have ideas.
Save your juice can lids, and glue on pictures, and a ribbon to hang it with.
Cut up old Christmas cards into shapes, say trees. Put them back to back and glue together, punch a hole for a ribbon.
Take a photo of the kids, print, and cut out into the above shapes.
I have 2 great ornament ideas that I made with my kids.
Both of these are made from easy to use felt and the sites I provide even have a print out pattern. There is also a picture of the completed ornament so that you can see how cute they both are.
